English Language Learner Programs
English Language Learner programs offered by San Leandro Unified School District include:
SLUSD offers bilingual services in all of our classes below are specific programs we also offer at some of our Elementary Schools.
Spanish Biliteracy Pathway The Spanish Biliteracy Pathway program is offered at Halkin in grades K-5th. Jefferson in grades 3rd-5th. Entering Kindergarten students must already speak Spanish and students entering 1st – 5th grade should have already received instruction in Spanish or participated in a bilingual program to enroll. This program offers academic instruction in both English and Spanish according to the district adopted bilingual matrix. The goal of this program is for students to be bilingual and biliterate. Participation and enrollment in this alternative language program is based on the school and district approval.
Dual Language Immersion Program
Dual Language Immersion Program: The Dual Language Immersion Program is offered at Washington in grades K-5th and Jefferson in K-2nd. Participation and enrollment in this alternative program is based on district approval via an application process. Students whose home language is Spanish or English may participate in the DLI program. This program offers academic instruction in both English and Spanish according to the district adopted DLI bilingual matrix. For students entering 1st grade and up they should have already received instruction in a Dual Language setting in order to participate in the DLI Program.
